Business Management Course for Building Professionals

Learn-Build for Chicago Real EstateLearn-Build is a new organization that is trying to increase industry knowledge for members of the Homebuilding Associations in the Chicago area. It is truly beneficial for anyone involved in the Chicago real estate industry, and we are thankful for its creation. Obviously in order to increase knowledge, they are going to be offering various education courses that will directly affect how you do business and your success. An example of these courses is the Business Management for Building Professionals, which is currently available for registration and is on Wednesday, May 21 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This is the opportunity for you to learn the management skills that will give you an edge in the industry. After completing this course you will be able to:

  • Apply key measures of business perfromance to your own business

    CAPS Courses at HBA of Greater Fox Valley a Huge Success!!

    The HBA of Greater Fox Valley hosted the NAHB’s University of Housing Sponsored designation courses CAPS I & CAPS II this week with much success. Thanks to instructor Doug Sutton for his efforts to ensure the students received maximum benefit from these informative classes. And, special thanks to Parksite, in Batavia, for hosting our group in their spacious, state-of-the-art conference center.

    New Education Resource Website

    Five of the Chicagoland area’s Homebuilders Associations have teamed together to offer an array of educational courses under the newly formed Illinois Regional Education Board (IREB.) IREB consolidates the educational efforts of the builder, remodelor, and associate members in each of these five HBAs. A Web site was recently created to give members a centralized location to learn about upcoming NAHB sanctioned courses and designations offered through the IREB program.
    All information on IREB, which is comprised of The Homebuilders Association of Greater Chicago, The Homebuilders Association of Greater Fox Valley, The Southwest Suburban Homebuilders Association, The Northern Illinois Homebuilders Association and The Homebuilders Association of Will-Grundy Counties, can now be found online at www.learn-build.com.
    This is the perfect place for builders and remodelors to see the complete list of courses offered, which includes everything from Building Codes and Estimating to Standards and Customer Service. The Web site is easy to use and includes options for contacting IREB by email, registering for classes and paying for these courses online.     Five Tips for Buying a Home in a Down Market

    The subprime mortgage bust has scared a lot of people away from the housing market. The nightly news is filled with images and stories of everyday Americans who are losing their homes because they made greedy and uninformed decisions, they were taken advantage of by predatory brokers, or a combination of these situations. However, the news isn’t all bad. This decline in the market has dropped prices and made housing affordable to many fiscally responsible renters who never considered home ownership to be an option.

    If you find yourself house-hunting, make sure that you follow these five simple steps to take advantage of this downturn in the market; if you don’t, you could be the next sad story on your local news.

    1. Accounting for Extraneous Expenses
    As with almost any major purchase, there can be a number of fees associated with buying a home. Costs associated with property taxes, homeowner’s insurance, standard maintenance, and utilities should not be overlooked. In addition, if you buy a home that is part of a complex or attached to a homeowner’s association, you will have to pay annual fees as well. Make sure that you take these additional expenses into account when you are determining how much home you can afford.

    2. Acknowledging Special Assessments
