This North Shore Mansion Is Chicago Real Estate Reverie
Le Grand Reve, or ‘the Big Dream’ is a north shore home now privately on the market for an astonishing $32 million. West of Winnetka, Chicagoland home buyers have a chance to buy one of the priciest homes on the market nationwide. According to Dennis Rodkin of the Chicagomag.com’s Deal Estate, the approximately 17,000 square foot French chateau sits on 2 acres in unincorporated Cook County and is for sale.
Completed sometime in 2005 (estimated), the owners Sherwin and Deborah Jarol built this Landry Design Group designed Mansion for their family. Now that the kids have moved out (presumably to college), the empty-nesters apparently have decided to downsize from their practically new ‘single family’ home. It’s virtually a guarantee that the next Chicago home they purchase will be a step down, should they get their asking price.
Similar to William Wrigley Jr’s mansion in Lake Forest, it won’t be listed on the MLS and will be marketed as a private listing. Sudler Sotheby is handling the sale and if you happen to drive by chances are that their won’t be an open house this coming or any future Sunday afternoon.
As Mr. Rodkin investigated details in his recent post, the sellers and listing agent weren’t forthcoming with much information regarding the property other than indicating it was constructed with the finest details and materials from around the world. We hope that this would be the case because if you plan on buying this place with 20% down, your mortgage payments would top $160,000 a month. Add in the real estate taxes and you might need to win the mega millions jackpot every year until you decide to down-size too.

Sounds like an affordable mortgage. Been by the home a couple of times and was always intrigued. What is the latest with Le Grand Reve? Did they find a buyer?
