Front Street Lofts Sponsors “Pride of Lemont Community Mural”

lemontmuralA new mural to be designed by two local artists and painted with the cooperation of Lemont residents will commemorate aviator Rudy King.  This weekend will be the last chance to put your paint brush to work and be a part of this public work.  Sponsoring the event is Front Street Lofts, a $250 million project to redevelop and reinvent Lemont’s Downtown District.  They are about to close out its ambitious urban renewal lofts phase that began in late 2006.

The mural, a project of the Arts and Culture Commission of Lemont, is going to be affixed to the local to the west side of the All Service Garage in downtown Lemont.  Rudy King was a local aviator who loved to fly airplanes and began to race them around the country.  In December 1937, King tragically lost life in an accident in Miami.  The mural is to partly depict King and his barnstorming days of the 1930’s.  Below is the schedule for the final weekend of participation and painting:

  • Friday, July 31 -  12:00 pm to 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, August 1  – 10:00 pm to 5:00 pm
  • Sunday, August 2 – 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm

The Front Street Lofts of Lemont is a unique mixed-use project in the suburbs and a great new neighborhood in this historic town.  There are many floor plans to choose from and the lofts and town homes are part of a new construction live/work concept with retail and residential together to create a beautiful new downtown community.  Stonehouse Pub recently opened its doors in the village center on Stephen Street.

The urban-like dwellings abundant in space, light and upscale amenities, the one- and two-story lofts are available in studio, one, two or three bedroom units, with prices ranging between $180,000 and $500,000.  While loft living appeals to all age groups, loft dwellers tend to be young at heart. They appeal to first-time home buyers who can take advantage of the $8,000 federal tax credit that expires December 1st.  They also value home ownership but not necessarily the yard work and other maintenance chores that a home requires. They prefer cultural events; attending a concert, seeing a play or strolling through a sidewalk art fair or even having a beer at a local out door cafe. Loft owners generally enjoy their close proximity to an active nightlife and fine dining. And they appreciate conveniences such as nearby shopping or walking and biking paths.
