Reports this week in Copenhagen paint Tokyo as a calm but confident participant in the events leading up to the International Olympic Committee’s October 2nd host city selection decision . The Japanese have neither created a press frenzy like Oprah Winfrey nor burst into passionate song like the green-coated Brazilians. Tokyo is definitely seeing green, though, touting strengths in environmentally friendly planning and strong financial backing.

In a fun, graphics-filled website, Tokyo’s 2016 Summer Olympics bid team has systematically laid out 40 reasons the IOC should choose their city in tomorrow’s selection process. Among those that stand out is the plan to host the first carbon-minus Games. This will be accomplished through the city’s already acclaimed energy efficiency measures and also by powering all transport with carbon-free fuel.

Tokyo has already assembled significant financial support for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Two-thirds of the venues already exist, and real estate has already been secured for the remaining needed venues. In a culture known for preserving history, Tokyo also points to the nostalgia of using the 1964 Olympic Stadium for some of competitions. Plans call for the marathon to start at the 52-year-old structure and finish at the new Olympic Stadium.

What’s missing? Most of those watching say it’s passion. Of course, the Japanese disagree. In just one day, we’ll find out what the IOC thinks in less than 48 hours.
