The Village Burns Harbor First Green Neighborhood In Nation

Often, the National Association of Home Builders Green Building program certifies a home for energy performance, land use and sustainable resources. However, for the first time, an entire community qualified for the National Green Building Standard named The Village in Burns Harbor.  These new homes in northwest Indiana not only are environmentally friendly and efficient, they resemble established neighborhoods with traditional designs and strong community feelings like much of established Chicago real estate.

The Village in Burns Harbor is located in a beautiful part of Northwest Indiana known as Duneland. Made up of the communities of Burns Harbor, Dune Acres, Porter, Chesterton and Beverly Shores, the area borders the beautiful Indiana Dunes recreation area, Lake Michigan and the area’s many beaches, parks and hiking trails.

Just 43 miles east of Chicago and 56 miles west of South Bend, and served by the South Shore Rail Line, The Village in Burns Harbor is convenient to the many cultural, sporting and entertainment venues for which these two cities are known.

For boaters and golfers, there are numerous marinas and golf courses in the area. Offering access to Lake Michigan and state-of-the art marine services are the Portage Marina on Burns Waterway; the Washington Park Marina and Trail Creek Launch in Michigan City; and the New Buffalo, Michigan Marina. Opportunities for golf abound with seven public and private courses within a 20-mile radius of The Village in Burns Harbor.
