Cubs President Gets Winnetka Estate for a Steal

Cubs president Crane Kenney has purchased a Winnetka home for close to half its original asking price.

Kenny and his wife, Kelly, paid $1.5 million for the 3,791-square-foot mansion, 1010 Mt. Pleasant St., which was first listed for $2.2 million in July of 2008. The private home, located on a cul-de-sac, was reduced to $1.9 million last February and then to $1.65 million in August.

Built in 1953, the house is situated on three-quarters of an acre in southwest Winnetka and has 5 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, a first-floor master suite, an indoor pool and a screened-in porch.

Kenney, 47, had previously served as the chief legal officer for the Chicago Tribune and chairman of the Chicago Cubs before becoming president.

He also owns a 5,636-square-foot home at 1220 Lindenwood Drive in southwest Winnetka that he bought for $660,000 in August 2000.

Kenney must have had a good day Monday as the Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 9-5 in their home opener after getting home runs from Xavier Nady, Jeff Baker and Aramis Ramirez. Longtime fan and new owner Tom Ricketts joined his two brothers and sister t0 sing “Take me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh-inning stretch.
