Family Event, Sunday Walks Offer Colorful Tours of Garden in the City

Lurie Garden offers a major splash of color in the city.

In the southeastern end of Chicago’s Millennium Park is an urban oasis called the Lurie Garden.

The 5-acre garden pays homage to the city’s motto, “Urbs in Horto,” which translates to City in a Garden and refers to Chicago’s transformation from its flat and marshy origins to a bold and powerful city.

Every Sunday through September 19, Lurie Garden volunteers take patrons on free 20-minute guided walks and discuss the garden’s design, its native plants and how to apply it to your home garden.

A free walk through Lurie Garden is part of the program this Saturday during a family workshop called, “Things with Wings: Bees, Butterflies and Birds.”

Come learn all about winged creatures and make a few take-home crafts at this free workshop, which includes a walk in the garden in search of flying friends.

Children must be at least six years old and pre-registration is required, so do it now!
