Obama Drives Town to Honor Him With a Street

Take a drive in Calumet Park and you might find yourself on Obama Drive.

Hundreds of people turned out Saturday morning to celebrate as a one-mile stretch of 127th Street in the south suburb was renamed after the President of the United States.

Everyone knows that President Barack Obama is a Chicago resident, but did you also know that he represented Calumet Park when he was a State Senator?

After the renaming, a parade marched down the newly named street, which extends from Winchester Avenue to Carpenter Street.

While there are more than 8,500 cities worldwide that have streets named our 44th president, this is the first Obama Drive in the country and the first road named after President Obama in his home state of Illinois.
